Learning how to play chess can be a difficult yet rewarding experience. Chess is a game that is played by millions of people around the world. There are many ways for adults or children to learn chess strategies. Chess is a game that is thousands of years. Studies show that there are literally billions of different chess strategies and game outcomes. When an individual decides to learn chess, there are a series of steps that should be taken to play a game of chess.
• The first thing that must be done to learn chess is to pick a color for each opponent to play. There are white chess pieces and black chess pieces. Whoever plays with the white chess pieces go first. Turns are taken by making moves with the chess pieces one at a time. There are 16 chess pieces in every opponent’s team. Within those 16 pieces are eight pawns, two knights, two bishops, two rooks, one queen and one king.
• To learn chess, an individual should learn to move their chess pieces into squares on the board that is occupied by their opponent’s chess pieces. An individual’s chess pieces that are on squares on the chessboard that is invaded by the opponents are then taken off the board. Once taken off the board, these chess pieces become the property of the individual who won the squares on the chess board.
• The main purpose of the game of chess is for an individual to protect their king piece and capture their opponent’s king piece. To learn chess, an individual must learn how to protect their own king by moving it away from the danger of the opponents chess pieces. One can block their king piece from danger by blocking it with their other chess pieces or by capturing their opponents chess pieces with their own. Each piece has different rules about movement. For instance, a Bishop can move any number of spaces while it is in a diagonal line. The Queen chess piece can move any number of spaces in any direction, as long as it follows a straight path of horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. The King can only move one space in any direction.
• To win a chess game, an individual must capture their opponent’s King piece. To accomplish this, an individual must put their opponent’s King piece in a checkmate position. This is done by moving their chess pieces into a position on the board that leaves the King piece unable to escape. When an individual manages to do this, they have won the chess game.
When one wants to learn chess, they should make sure to know the layout of the chessboard as well as the function and abilities of each chess piece they are playing with. Children or adults that are interested in learning to play chess can find a wide variety books, websites, classes and videos on the subject. Some schools across the United States are even teaching children to play chess as an extracurricular activity.
